Memory

Ask Hamster to remember a preference or fact once, and every new conversation starts with it.

Overview

Memory is the set of facts Hamster keeps about you and your team: how you like a review structured, which repository a service lives in, a decision the team made last week. Hamster brings those facts into every chat, so a new conversation doesn't start from zero. When there are too many to fit, it keeps lasting preferences first, fills the rest with the newest facts, and can search for older ones when a question needs them.

Each fact is either private to you or shared with your team. You manage both on the Memory page in your personal settings.

How It Works

Ask Hamster to remember — In any chat, say what you want kept, such as "Remember that I want reviews grouped by risk, highest first." Hamster saves it and confirms.
Choose who it's for — Hamster keeps a fact private unless it's clearly about the team. Ask for it to be shared when every teammate's Hamster should know it.
Start a new conversation — Hamster brings your saved facts into it, so you don't repeat them.
Review what Hamster remembers — Open your personal settings and select Memory.

Private and Shared Facts

Memory belongs to the team you're working in. Switch teams and you see that team's shared facts and your private facts for it.

What Hamster Learns on Its Own

Hamster also picks up lasting details from your conversations without being asked. Facts it learns this way are always private to you, and they're marked learned automatically on the Memory page.

Hamster can revise or drop a fact it learned on its own when a later conversation contradicts it. It never changes or removes a fact you asked it to remember or edited yourself. A fact you delete stays deleted unless you ask Hamster to remember it again.

Editing and Deleting Facts

On the Memory page, each fact shows the date Hamster learned it. Hover a fact to edit or delete it.

Edit — Change the wording and select Save. A fact you edit counts as yours, so it loses the learned automatically mark and Hamster won't change it on its own.
Delete — The fact is removed right away, without a confirmation step.
From chat — Ask Hamster to forget a fact, or tell it what changed and it updates what it remembers.

Any member of the team can edit or delete a shared fact. To add a fact, or to change whether one is private or shared, ask Hamster in chat. The Memory page doesn't add facts or move them between sections.

Each fact can be up to 500 characters.

Tips

Save preferences as instructions, not observations. "Group review comments by risk" is easier for Hamster to apply than "I found the last review hard to read."
Put team conventions in shared facts so teammates' chats pick them up too. For a longer procedure the whole team follows, write a Method instead.
Check the Memory page after a few weeks and delete what's out of date.
